Landmark TE Business Stuns Workers, Shoppers

Customers and employees who knew a major change was coming, but not this soon, were left reeling from the announcement.

One of the biggest retailers in Tredyffrin and Easttown is closing much sooner than expected.

Late this spring, Waterloo Gardens announced it would be closing its six-and-a- half acre store in Devon. A Waterloo spokeswoman told Patch at the time that the plan was to keep the landmark Devon location open unti later this year, perhaps through Christmas.

Now comes word that the garden and home & gift store, which has been at the corner of Lancaster Ave and Waterloo in Devon since 1942, is closing on July 15.

A TE Patch Reader who loves the store sent TE Patch a news tip Wednesday (to send Patch a news tip simply click on the 'send us a news tip' button toward the bottom of the homepage) after learning about the closing while shopping on Wednesday.

Late Wednesday a stunned employee told TE Patch Wedensday that everyone who works at the store has been told they will be out of a job.

Store officials were not available for comment on Wednesday.
