Josephus Davis, 21, was convicted of robbing and killing Milan Loncar, who was out walking his dog in Brewerytown.

PHILADELPHIA, PA —Twenty-one year-old Josephus Davis, of Philadelphia, was sentenced Friday to life in prison for the fatal shooting and robbery of Milan Loncar, a 2014 Conestoga High School graduate.

Loncar, 25, was fatally shot on Jan. 13, 2021 when he was walking his dog, Roo, about a block away from his apartment at 31st and Jefferson streets in Brewerytown.

Loncar, an engineering major, graduated from Temple in 2019 and worked for Whiting-Turner, a construction management company, his family said.

At the sentencing hearing in Philadelphia Court as reported in the The Philadelphia Inquirer:

The judge read segments of 25 letters by family members and friends about how the death has affected their lives.

Loncar’s sister, Jelena Loncar, 28, said she was unable to work for more than 20 hours a week since her brother’s death. She moved out of Philadelphia.

Loncar’s mother, Kim Lounsberry, said losing her son has left her with no hope.

During the trial, Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore showed the jury a video taken at the scene of the botched robbery and killing.

She linked the defendant to the crime by proving Davis wore a distinctive pair of sneakers and a flashy belt that was seen several hours later when Davis was jumping out of a stolen car.

Davis’ lawyer, Douglas Dolfman, countered there was insufficient evidence.

Davis was on probation and was awaiting trial on charges of carjacking and assaulting a prison guard. He had been released from jail two weeks before the killing.
