TREDYFFRIN, PA —Tredyffrin township supervisors authorized the township officials this week to investigate providing residents with municipal trash collection.

Joseph D. DiRocco, assistant township manager and finance director, informed the board that Republic Services will halt trash collection at the end of the month for Tredyffrin and its residents and 14 other municipalities.

Two trash haulers, A.J. Bolsenski and Whitetail Disposal, are still providing service.

DiRocco said the township is getting the word out to residents through social media and the township website about the situtation.

Susanne Hay, member of Environmental Advisory Council, said the council is excited to hear that the township is considering municipal collection.

“I would like to look at recycling as well as trash haulers,” Hay said. “If every house has the same rules, we can better educate our customers.”

DiRocco said there is a trend with municipalities converting from private subscription to municipal trash collection.

He noted that a single-hauler is likely to be less costly because of the ability to negotiate a lower price with larger customers.
