Never Forget 9/11: 21st Anniversary At Valley Forge National Park

VALLEY FORGE, PA - The 21st anniversary of the 9/11 attack on our nation was remembered Sunday morning during a service at Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge National Historical Park.

The Rev. Tommy Thompson led a service to remember the nearly 3,000 people killed during the 9/11 attack at the Twin Towers in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and on Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pa.

The service featured a special tribute to Louis J. Nacke II, who is laid to rest in the chapel’s cemetery. Following the service, there was a procession in the rain to Nacke's grave, where prayers were said for the resting of his soul.

Nacke, 42, of New Hope, Bucks County, was on a last-minute business trip when he died on Flight 93 in Shanksville, according to the National Park Service.

Forty passengers and crew members, and four hijackers died on the plane.

Nacke was the director of a distribution center for toys in New Jersey, a husband, a father, a weightlifter, and friend.

The bourdon bell of the carillon rang six times to mark the attacks on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and when Flight 93 crashed.

The plane crashed at 8:46 a.m into South Tower; 9:03 a.m. into North Tower; 9:37 a.m. into the Pentagon; and 9:59 a.m. on a field in Pennsylvania. The South Tower collapsed 10:03 a.m.; and the North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m.

A service to honor the U.S. military on Veterans Day is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.
