New Wegmans Packs Them in

Crowds packed the new Wegmans just beyond the Tredyffrin Township line in King of Prussia on its opening day Sunday.

The parking lot was packed. Upper Merion police and extra Wegmans employees manned the parking lot to be sure traffic flowed smoothly and shoppers were able to find parking spaces. Employees parked in a separate lot across the street.

Once inside, employees throughout the store handed out coupons, made sure people found what they were looking for and made sure the checkout lines flowed.

From a shopping perspective, it was a mess, because the large crowd made it difficult to move, especially if you had a cart. The prepared food area, where you can find Wegmans takeout or eat in options, bread, baked goods, fish and deli selections appeared to be more crowded than the rest of the store.

Food samples were also available in that area, the cheese section at the back of the vegetable area and various other places around the store.

Store Layout

For TE shoppers who have been enjoying the, the store layout has a few differences, but is much the same for shoppers.

For Wegmans diners, one difference is the soft drink selection. While all sodas are available in bottles, offers Pepsi fountain drinks. The fountain sodas in the King of Prussia store are Coke products dispensed by an unusual dispenser that appears to be new. (see a picture in the group of photos, above, right)

Product Selection

For those of you who have not shopped at a Wegmans before, what you will find is a mixture of high-end groceries, groceries you will find elsewhere, and Wegmans brand groceries.

They have a large section of gluten-free products, as well as a variety of ethnic foods. Their selection of organic items is also quite large.

For the Kids

The kid in you, and likely your children too, will enjoy the train overhead in the back of the store and the bulk candy section in the middle of the store.

Takeout

Wegmans has a variety of takeout options. They feature open bars of much of the food that they offer, including desserts. You can also order food at the counters.

If you’re looking for takeout that looks like you made it, you can always try their entree and two sides combination that can be reheated on a plate and as long as you get rid of the takeout container, no one will know you didn’t cook it.

Eating at Wegmans

All the food noted above can also be eaten at any one of many tables inside or outside. The outside area even features a nice pergola area with a fireplace.

Buying Beer

Wegmans also has its own Pub, which is the feature that allows Wegmans to sell beer, but you can’t buy more than two six packs because of the type of alcohol license Wegmans has.
