One Bridge Opens, Another Closes Immediately
PennDOT opens one bridge only to immediately close another on Newtown Road in Easttown.
It's a good news/bad news scenario for drivers who have been coping with a closed bridge on Newtown Road since early spring. The bridge at S. Leopard Road is finally rebuilt and re-opened.
It won't make much difference for drivers who want a straight shot on Newtown Road between Sugartown Road in Berwyn and 252 in Newtown (by Episcopal Academy).
As soon as PennDOT re-opened the bridge at Leopard Road last week, crews closed a bridge (that you might not have even realized is a bridge) between Beaumont and WaterlooRoad, about a mile away from the newly re-opened bridge.

The bottom line: drivers still have to take a substantial detour around Newtown where Newtown Road runs parrallels Hilltop House's "backyard" park.
The work on the bridge, which is actually two giant pipes that carry a Darby Creek tributary under Newtown road, is expected to continue into the fall.
