Patch Video: Hoisting the Guardrail into Place

While you were sleeping or watching football Thursday night, a 150 ton crane was lifting pieces of the new pedestrian bridge over Valley Forge Road into place along the Great Valley Trail.

It took several hours to lift the handrail pieces into place and secure them on the side of the pedestrial bridge.  A crew on the ground took the black metal handrails off a truck and prepared them to be lifted by the crane, over a spiders web of communication lines and into place.  A supervisor at the site told Patch the the PECO power lines are buried under the road making it an inconvenience but not a shock hazard if the overhead lines would have been struck.  They were not.
