Police Investigate Prescription Drug Fraud

Customer tried to fill bogus prescription for powerful drug.

Tredyffrin Police are investigating the case of a pharmacy customer who tried to fill a bogus prescription for a powerful drug.

Police say a pharmacist at a store in the 400 block of Swedesford Road in Berwyn called police at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday April 5 to report an unknown woman tried to fill a fradulaent prescription for Oxycodone.  The physician whose name was on the prescription confirmed it was, in fact, forged.

According to the National Insititutes of Health (NIH) Oxycodone "is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. Oxycodone is in a class of medications called opiate (narcotic) analgesics. It works by changing the way the brain and nervous system respond to pain."
