Police Name Berwyn Woman Killed in 202 Crash

West Whiteland Township Police have released the name of the 25-year-old Berwyn woman who was killed in an early morning crash Friday on Route 202 in Chester County.

Multiple media reports Sunday confirmed the woman's identity as 25-year-old Meghan McGuire of Berwyn.

The crash happened shortly before 1 a.m. Friday morning and sent the 55-year-old driver of a box truck involved in the collission to Paoli Hospital.  Richard Laub III, 55, of Norristown was treated and released.

The accident forced a shut down of southbound Route 202 near the Route 30 exit all through the night and Friday morning's rush hour.

Word of her identity spread quickly, but police did not immediately name the victim.

Police did not release McQuire's name to the news media until her family had been notified. Despite that, news of her death spread quickly, especially through social media.

By 11:29 a.m. Saturday McGuire was already being remembered by friends on Facebook. Berwyn Tavern Owner Joe Rexroat posted a note on the tavern's Facebook wall that reads: "R.I.P. Meghan. You always brought a smile to every one of our faces, and your smile and laughter will always resonate through our walls. All of our thoughts are of you and your family and friends are in our prayers. We will miss you Meggles."

Rexroat remembered McGuire warmly during a telephone interview with Patch Saturday afternoon. Rexroat described McQuire, who had friends at the Tavern as "very mellow girl, not a high strung young girl."  Rexroat said he heard about the fatal accident Saturday morning and was stunned that it was someone he knew, let alone a regular customer.

The cause of the accident, which totalled the Volkswagen Passat McGuire was driving is still under investigation.

The Chester County Daily Local News reports that the Passat was going north in the Southbound lanes, when it hit the truck.
