Showdown Over a Barn, Hoedown in Paoli

Easttown to consider the future of an old barn and Paolis gets the blues this week.

It'll be a battle of the barn and a friendly "non-battle" of the bands this week in TE.

Thursday at 7 p.m. the Battle of the Barn continues at 7 p.m. at Hilltop House (adjacent to the Easttown Municipal Building on Beaumont Road) as resident who want to save what's known as the Kennedy Barn (also sometimes called the Kennedy/Rossi Barn) from demolition.   The barn has been the center of a more than a year long battle between the developers of the property and local residents who want to see it preserved.

The structure is currently on the market as one of several homesite parcels being developed by Bentley Homes at Waterloo Road and Berkley Roads.  In July the Board of Supervisors voted to issue a demolition permit for the barn, which is on sale for one million dollars.  The building is currently an empty shell and would need extensive and expensive work to turn in to a home.

The Easttown Township Zoning Hearing Board will listen to arguments from residents who want to see the structure saved and from the developer who says it is simply to expensive to develop into a home on the site.

Smiling Over the Blues

On Saturday, thousands of people are expected to flock to Paoli for the biggest outdoor event of the year on the Main Line.  Organizers say The Paoli Blues Fest drew more than 15,000 people to the area around the Paoli Train Station last year.

The event will feature live bands which change every hour from 12 noon-5 p.m. on the Main Stage at the Paoli Village Shoppes.  Local merchants, restarants, and vendors will have tents set up the length of the street in the middle of the festival.  This year's festival adds a new pub crawl from 6-11 p.m. at several area watering holes, including Red Hound Grille, McKenie's Brew House (Malvern), Great American Pub in Malvern, and Baxter's.

Full details and a schedule can be found on the Paoli Blues Fest website.
