Taking a Late Summer Trip? Call the Cops
Tredyffrin Police are offering free help to keep your home safe when you're away.

As the summer winds down and a new school year looms, many people are trying to squeeze in a quick vacation trip before fall activities begin.
The Tredyffrin Police Department wants to help keep your house safe while you're away. T says give his department a call before you leave on vacation and they will help keep an extra eye on your house.
You can also leave an emergency contact number information with police so that if something were to happen, emergency personnel will know how to reach you.

The service is free and during Monday night's Board of Supervisors Meeting, Giaimo encouraged Tredyffrin Township residents to take advantage of it.

The Tredyffrin Township Police also offer these tips for securing your home and property when you're away:
- Contact the Township so that the Police Department may assist you with extra patrol, by completing this form and returning it to the Township in person or by fax: 610-644-5394.
- Double-check all windows - don't forget basement windows!
- Be sure garage doors and windows are locked.
- Don't discuss your plans in public places.
- Put valuables away in safety deposit vault or any place you feel won't be discovered.
- Have mail picked up by a friend or neighbor. Have someone pick up newspapers, flyers, etc.
- Arrange to have the lawn cut.
- Alert neighbors not to reveal to strangers that you are away.
- Arrange for neighbor or friend to use your garbage or trashcans.
- Remove ladders from sight. Lock away, if possible.
- Leave a car in the driveway, if possible. See if a neighbor or friend will occasionally move it to different locations for you.
- Leave a number with a neighbor, close friend, or police where you can be reached in an emergency.
- Install several timers in various areas of the house.
- Attach a radio to a timer.
- Equip doors and windows with deadbolts.
