Thomas Road Closed In Tredyffrin Township, beginning Wednesday

The road will remain closed in both directions from Walker to Gulph Road until Oct. 21 as part of the $117M turnpike widening project.

TREDYFFRIN, PA —The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is closing Thomas Road between Walker Road and Gulph Road in Tredyffrin Township, beginning Wednesday.

The road will be closed to motorists 24/7 through Friday, Oct. 21.

Thomas Road is used regularly by locals and as a cut through for residents in the Phoenxville area driving to King of Prussia and Tredyffrin Township.

The road closure is part of the first-phase of a $117.8M project to widen a 2-mile stretch at the Turnpike’s Valley Forge Interchange at Route 422, Upper Merion Township, to the Valley Forge overpass.

During the closure, Thomas Road motorists will be directed to use Walker Road, Glenhardie Road, and Gulph Road. Local access will be maintained up to the work zone.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Project status

The project is expected to be completed in 2025.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed on Thomas Road and Glenhardie Roads to allow single traffic through the roads during the construction project.

Excavation for sediment basins on the eastbound side of the Turnpike near the Valley Forge Service Plaza has begun.

On the eastbound side, drilling and grouting for ground improvement is ongoing, along with access and haul road construction.

On the westbound side, drainage pipe installation continues along with drilling and grouting for ground improvement
