Tredyffrin Homeowners: Summer Storms On The Way

Township officials ask homeowners to maintain tree to prevent danger to neighbors, motorists, walkers and others with falling limbs.

TREDYFFRIN TWP, PA —Summer is the time of year when Tredyffrin Township transforms into an arboretum.

Trees are in full bloom, providing beauty and shade. Nature’s beauty is at its peak.

It’s also the time to take a deeper look at your trees. Many of the trees are old and in need of upkeep and/or removal.

The township codes department receives numerous calls regarding overgrown trees on residential properties.

With severe summer storms coming, which are often accompanied by strong winds that could impact old, dying trees, homeowners want to address the problems now, according to Michael V. Pilotti, senior code enforcement officer.

What to do about trees on your property?

The property owner is responsible for the maintenance of trees on their properties. The owner could be liable for any damage or injury the limb might cause if it falls.

According to Tredyffrin Township codes:

  • If branches or large limbs hang over your neighbor’s yard, you are responsible to trim them back.
  • You could be liable for any damage or injuries if the limb falls.

Minimum requirements for building exterior and outside premises:

  • Must be kept free of unsanitary conditions and nuisances and to the safety of pedestrians and others living in the area.
  • Nuisances include excessive weeds, hedges that obstruct vision and dying trees
