Two Berwyn Women Named Citizens of the Year

What they did inspired a town to do great things and much more.

They set out to raise about $2,000 to help a friend in need and ended up inspiring a movement that did so much more.

Stacey Ballard of Eadeh Enterprises and Kim Cuthbert of Sweet Jazmines Pastry Shop are the Berwyn Devon Business and Professional Association's Citizens of the Year for leading an effort that has raised about $30,000 to help Mr. Yang of Yangs Farmers Market.

Yong Yang was seriously injured and left virtually blind in one eye during a robbery attack outside his market back in January. He had basic Medicare insurance but it does not cover many of his treatment and other expenses realted to his injuries.  Within hours of learning about the attack, Ballard and Cuthbert started talking about what they could do to help.

"We started out with an idea to each ask ten businesses to donate $100 to help," Cuthbert and Ballard explained during a tribute dinner last week. The movement took off and soon donations large and small came pouring in from all over the community and beyond.
