Verizon Phone Service Knocked Out in Chesco

Phone company says service is coming back up after widespread midday outtages.

Phone service is coming back up after being knocked out for a several hours midday Wednesday along the Upper Main Line.

Multiple news sources, including Philly.com report that service was affected when a Verizon facility in Wayne lost power.

The Chester County and Delaware County departments of emergency services annoucned that some people were having trouble calling 9-1-1 from "land lines" but that cellular service seemed to be working.

The following announcement was sent to Patch shortly after 1p.m. by the Chester County Department of Emergency Services:

            An equipment failure has occurred in the area of Wayne that has sporadically affected the Verizon phone service throughout Chester County.  As a result of this failure some residents may not be able to get a dial tone on their landline telephone.  Also some residents are experiencing Internet outages which will disable Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service.  Cell phones should not be affected by this equipment failure.

All received 9-1-1 calls are being answered as normal.

Verizon has advised that they are working on the issue but have not been able to determine the estimated time for repair.

By 2:15 p.m. Philly.com and multiple other news sources were reporting that power had been restored and phones were coming back into service along the Main Line in Tredyffrin and Easttown as well as to widespread areas of Delaware County, including Wayne and Media.
