Wegmans Opens New Local Store Sunday Morning

It's massive, enticing, and 16 years in the making.

Wegmans began planning for its new store on Swedesford Road just east of Tredyffrin Township 16 years ago.

Sunday morning at 7 the doors finally opened to the public at the chain's 80th store.

After months of hiring, training and getting the store ready for the big grand opening Manager Kevin Lang tells Patch he expects Sunday to be like a party for shoppers as customers explore the expansive building and employees get to show off what they've been getting ready inside.

It's 123,000 square feet of shopping, cafes, catering, local micro brewery beers and yes, more shopping. They even have groceries. Aisles and aisles and aisles of grocery which include locally-grown produce and locally produced items that are hard to find in other places.

Store Manager Kevin Lang will have 200 full-time and 400 part-time employees on his staff. The store has an outdoor patio with a gigantic fireplace for cool weather dining as well as 300 seat cafe that features a full bar (with live music on Friday nights).

Lang, a long-time Wegmans veteran who most recently managed the Malvern store, says the company started looking for a place to build in King of Prussia back in 1996. The new location at North Gulph and North Warner Roads is located that Wegmans expects will attract shoppers from a vast region stretching across Chester, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties.

“It took a while for us to get here,” says Lang, “so you can imagine how eager we are to open our doors to new shoppers and to those who have traveled the extra distance to shop at our other stores waiting for this one to open.”  Within a 10-mile radius of the new store, there are already 64,000 people who have Wegmans’ Shoppers Club card.
