When Horses Fly

Inside the walls of the Devon Horse Show magnificent animals fly over hurdles, under the gun.

It's one of the most breathtaking moments you'll see center stage at Dixon Oval. Magnificently groomed horses flying over hurdles while under the gun.

Show jumping competition was the order of the day Tuesday afternoon as temperatures soared into the 90's with oppressive humidity. All in a day's work for the horses, riders and trainers who come from all over the country and even some from Canada and overseas to compete in the longest-running show of its kind in the world.

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair runs through Monday in Devon.

Thursday, June 1 is Grand Prix Night which is expected to be one of the most attended nights of the show. Thursday night features the Wells-Fargo Grand Prix jumping event, which is an observation/precurses event for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Show Jumping Equestrian Team. Reserved grandstand seats were sold out for Thursday as of Wednesday morning. A note on the Devon Horse Show Website suggests fans who want to see olympic events from reserved seats consider buying tickets for Saturday.

Meet the Patch Team Thursday Evening at Devon

Come meet Patch Editors from TE, Radnor, Malvern and Patches all along the Main Line, Chester and Delaware Counties and Philadelphia. We'll be volunteering from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the ice cream booth, just inside the main entrance.

We would love to meet you, hear your story ideas and sell you some delicious treats to help raise money for the show.  Volunteers staff food concessions and other activities throughout the
