Bridgeport Couple Faces Child Endangerment Charges for Starving Son

Doctor's called the 6-year-old boy's condition "one of the worst cases of malnutrition they've ever seen."

According to several media outlets, Victor and Olaifa Ramos, of Bridgeport, are facing charges including simple and aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal conspiracy for starving their 6-year-old son. The boy weighed only 29 pounds when doctors at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia encountered him.

According to ABC Action News, the investigation into the couple began three months ago when the couple brought the boy to CHOP at death's door. Doctor's at the time reportedly said the boy looked "more like a 3-year-old than a 6-year-old."

“This child was not given proper nutrition, proper calories to maintain a healthy body weight for his system, for his development,” Assistan District Attorney Samantha Cauffman told CBS3. Caufman said the boy had no fat on his body and his skin was flaking off.
