Come For Zakes Cakes, Stay for Lunch and Dinner

Zakes Cafe opened in East Falls in 1979, and now serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in Fort Washington.

Upper Dublin Patch: When did you open your business?

Zakes Cafe: We opened as Zakes Cakes in the East Falls Section of Philly in December 1979. We rehabilitated a beautiful Victorian era storefront, opened the bakery on the first floor and lived above!

ZC: Zakes Cafe is unique in many ways. Very few fine restaurants are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and fewer still also have an award winning bakery as part of their repertoire.

UDP: What made you decide to open a business?

ZC: Marlene Zakes was a chef at Cafe Lafitte in Center City in the 70s and started making and selling desserts to many Philly restaurants. After several years, we decided to buy the building in East Falls.

UDP: What’s your most popular item?

ZC: Most popular item is a tough question. Perhaps the cakes in general.

UDP: Where can customers find your specials?

ZC: We update our menus every week on our website, ZAKESCAFE.COM, and we post newly added items on our Facebook page.

UDP: What are your hours, website, Facebook page, etc.?

ZC: We are open 7 days each week for breakfast and lunch and open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday evenings. On Wednesday and Thursday we offer a special Prix Fixe Menu at dinner for $28 and on Friday evening we offer a Tasting Menu for $33, in addition to the a la carte menu. We can be reached for reservations at 215-654-7600.
