Fort Washington Residents Help Fund Healing Garden
Construction begins on the Jane and Leonard Korman Family Healing Garden at Einstein Medical Center.

Construction is underway on a landscaped garden and waterfall at Einstein Medical Center. The Healing Garden will provide a quiet place for patients, family, friends and hospital staff.
The 21,500 square-foot Healing Garden is being integrated with the South Entrance to the hospital building and will incorporate a serpentine walkway providing shaded areas and benches for visitors. The focal point is a unique wall feature with a cascading waterfall. Plants, including trees, shrubs, groundcovers, perennials and bulbs, tied to each of the four seasons, will be planted in the garden. Walkways and plantings will be accented with landscape lighting.

The Healing Garden is made possible through a gift from The Jane and Leonard Korman Family Foundation. Leonard Korman has been a member of the Einstein Board for more than three decades, serving in a variety of leadership positions. Jane Korman served on Einstein Medical Center Montgomery’s Art Committee, which helped select about 550 pieces of art that contribute to its healing environment.
The principal-in-charge of the design was the late Stuart Appel of Wells Appel, a Philadelphia firm that specializes in planning, landscape architecture and urban design.

“It is a very exciting time at Einstein,” said Barry R. Freedman, President and Chief Executive Officer for Einstein Healthcare Network. “The Healing Garden is a tremendous addition and we’re grateful for the Korman family’s generosity.”
There will be a dedication inscribed into the wall feature in memory of Leonard and Jane Korman’s parents, Max and Matilda Korman, and David Friedman and Rosalie Friedman Wachs. The dedication will also include the following quote from the great scientist Albert Einstein: “Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better.”
The project is expected to be completed in September.
