An Upper Dublin Officer Is Certified To Perform Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspections

UPPER DUBLIN, PA — A township police officer recently completed training to conduct commercial vehicle safety inspections, and the police department is telling drivers they may be spotting him on area highways pulling over larger vehicles.

Upper Dublin Police Officer Andy Bochanski attended three weeks of training recently to become a certified commercial vehicle inspector for the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program, which exists to identify commercial vehicles and commercial vehicle drivers who may be in violation of federal motor carrier safety regulations, according to the police department.

The department says that Bochanski may have been seen recently in the area of the Fort Washington interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike conducting commercial vehicle safety stops, and that he will likely be seen doing the same in the future.

A portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike runs through Upper Dublin Township.

"Commercial vehicle inspections ensure that carriers and drivers are in compliance with those regulations and, when an imminent safety hazard exists, place vehicles and/or drivers out-of-service until the violations are corrected," the police department posted on its Facebook page.

Upper Dublin Police wrote in its post that the commercial vehicle safety checks are "one of the many things we're doing to make the roads in Upper Dublin Township safer for our residents and visitors!"

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program is a grant program that provides financial assistance to states to help reduce the number and severity of vehicle crashes and hazardous materials incidents involving commercial vehicles.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Bochanski has been a police officer with Upper Dublin Township for nearly 17 years.
