UPPER DUBLIN, PA — The state teachers’ union is being thanked for its generosity in buying lunch for Fort Washington Elementary School staff following a displacement due to Hurricane Ida, which caused damage at the school and led to its students and staff being relocated elsewhere in the Upper Dublin School District.

The Pennsylvania State Education Association’s Mideastern Region “graciously supplied” Fort Washington Elementary staff members with boxed lunches on Monday as a way to help with the transition to the three other elementary schools in the district, according to a tweet from the Upper Dublin Education Association.

Fort Washington students have been relocated to Jarrettown Elementary, Maple Glen Elementary and Thomas Fitzwater Elementary while repairs are made at their home school due to damage sustained after remnants of Hurricane Ida came through the region on Sept. 1.

The Upper Dublin community was one of the hardest hit areas in Montgomery County. The powerful winds from a tornado spawned by Hurricane Ida ripped off the roof the township building and forced the relocation of municipal staff and the police department.

The school district had earlier announced that Fort Washington Elementary School students would be temporarily relocated to the district’s other three elementary schools while crews work to repair the damage done to the building from the storms.
