Upper Dublin Library Renovations Scheduled to Begin November 5

From Upper Dublin Public Library:

Now that the busy summer is over and the construction contracts have been awarded (the Upper Dublin Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to accept the lowest responsible bids at the Stated Meeting on Tuesday, September 14, 2012), you’ll start to see us preparing the UDPL facility for renovations. The contracts were awarded to Centre Point Contracting of Lansdale, PA for general construction ($106,200), Palman Electric of Huntington Valley, PA ($81,500), and John G. Moser & Son Inc. of Feasterville, PA for mechanical (HVAC) work ($9,838).

Construction is scheduled to begin on November 5, but there is a lot to be done before that time. Over the course of the next weeks, we ask for your patience as we move furnishings, books, shelving, etc. to temporary or new locations within the Library or to storage if necessary. The bulk of the moving prior to construction is planned for the last two weeks of October, and we expect to close off sections of the Library for some of this work for brief periods. While we will make every effort to minimize the impact that the preparations and ultimately the construction will have on our ability to serve you, we know that some changes will be required in order to ensure your safety and the safety of our staff as well as to promote a smooth and speedy construction completion. More to come on these changes in the coming weeks.

Construction is expected to last approximately 6 weeks with another two weeks for final phasing, such as installing any last shelving, moving collections to their new “homes, etc. We will continue to keep you updated over the next few months and throughout the construction process. Please note: Effective immediately, donations of books and audio-visual collections will not be accepted for an indeterminate period. Check back with us in 2013 after construction is completed.
