48 Runs, 11 Homers, 24 Hours: Montco College Team's Epic Game
A local college baseball team's early season game turned into an unforgettable and historic two-day marathon.
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL — On the humid Gulf shores of southern Florida, a Montgomery County college baseball team proved true the old adage of Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel: "the beauty of baseball is that every night you see something you've never seen before."
The difference was, they did it for two days in a row.
Arcadia University engaged in a 10-inning, 48-run, 11-home run battle that took place across two days and lasted more than 7 hours.

Less a chess match than an aggressive game of checkers played only with kings, Arcadia ultimately fell to Denison University, 25-23.

After slugging back and forth for 8 innings and the score still tied, umpires and teams made the decision to postpone the remainder of the game until the next morning. Denison prevailed in the 10th with a pair of runs that put them on top for good.
The game between the small Division III schools received national attention, and was even featured on the popular MLB show run by Jomboy Media.
Arcadia is considered one of the best D3 schools in the nation this year and a contender for the national title following a program record of 40 wins in 2022.
