Briar Bush to Implement New Admission Fees

To support nature-related and educational programming, Briar Bush Nature Center has new admission fees.

Still going strong after decades, Briar Bush Nature Center continues to touch people’s lives through engaging nature-based experiences. Briar Bush provides popular on-site and outreach environmental programs for pre-schools, youth groups, civic organizations and retirement communities.

In order to provide visitors with the robust programming they have come to expect and to create new experiences, will be instituting a modest admission fee.

According to Board President and Rydal resident, Stan Lexow, “Briar Bush has been fortunate to be able to provide unlimited, free access to the Museum since it was founded in 1962.

Instituting an admission fee was a difficult decision but one that will ultimately allow us to assure a strong future for this community treasure.”

Beginning Jan. 2, visitors to Briar Bush who are not residents of Abington Township or are not members of the Friends of Briar Bush will pay a nominal admission fee to visit the Museum building.

Briar Bush Nature Center is part of the Abington Township Parks and Recreation Department, and is therefore partially supported by Abington Township residents.

The Friends of Briar Bush provide additional support to ensure the strongest programming possible.

Fees for non-Abington residents who are not Briar Bush members are as follows:

  • $3 for adults
  • $2 for children (ages 2-17)
  • Free for children under two years of age

Access to the grounds, Nature Playscape, and Bird Observatory will continue to be free of charge. All onsite program fees include admission to the museum.

Memberships include unlimited, free access to the museum, passes for visitors, as well as discounts on a variety of programs.

Briar Bush Nature Center covers over 12-acres of land in the heart of Abington Township in Montgomery County.  The grounds feature over one mile of trails winding through a variety of natural habitats which are home to native plants and wild animals.  It is the site of the region’s first Nature PlayScape which draws upon components from the environment to create a natural play area.  The Museum has resident animals, interactive exhibits, touch tables and play areas. Our environmental educators provide a variety of programs for pre-schools, youth groups, civic organizations and retirement communities.
