Congratulations to the Boys and Girls UMHS Swim Teams

Members of the boys and girls Upper Moreland High School Swim teams did very well at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District I Championship.

Congratulations are in order for the Upper Moreland High School boys' swim team. 

Every member of the boys team advanced to the PIAA District I Championship, which took place at LaSalle University. Members of the boys' swim team are:  

  • D.J. Chrobocinski
  • Kevin Cyliax
  • Austin Davis
  • Carl Dyke
  • Mike Freeman
  • Kane Nelson
  • Kyle Platt
  • Alex Pronzato
  • Patrick Smith
  • Petro Sokirniy 

Patrick qualified for states in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Not to be outdone by the boys, the following members of the girls'  swim team will also swim at the PIAA District I Championships at LaSalle. Members of the girls' swim team are:

  • Deanna Schwartz
  • Erin Meade
  • Anna Hakes
  • Saige Wenik
  • Amber Saint Clair
  • Bridget Meade

PIAA District One Champion freshman Amber Saint Clair won the 100-yard backstroke and swam her way into states at Bucknell University, which will take place March 15 - 17.  Amber also qualified for states in the 200-yard individual freestyle and the 400-yard relay.

Joining Amber at states in the 400-yard freestyle relay will be senior Deanna Schwartz and sophomores Anna Hakes and Saige Wenik.

Congratulations also to junior Natalee Szopo, who took first place Saturday at the PIAA District I Diving Championship with a score of 452.22. This is Natalee's second district title in three years.  Freshman Sydney Szopo placed second in the championship. Congratulations to the Szopo sisters, who will both advance to states. 

Upper Moreland wrestlers also earned some notable accomplishments. Senior John Bolich won the PIAA District One North Championship, as well as the Southeastern PA Regional Championship. He was also voted Outstanding Wrestler for three weeks running. For all of his hard work, he will advance to the state championship this week in Hershey. 

Wrestling seniors Will Dill and John Bolich will both advance to the Southeastern Regional Championship with their placement at Districts this past weekend at Council Rock North. John Bolich also received the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler Award.
