Upper Moreland Library's Sunday Cinema Continues

The “Sunday Cinema” film series finishes its Winter Series on March 18, 2012 at 2 pm. The Spring series begins in April and runs through June.

The Sunday Cinema program allows adults the opportunity to watch and discuss outstanding foreign films. All foreign-language films are subtitled.

After the viewing, Dr. Maurizio Giammarco will lead a discussion. No registration is needed. Visit our website at www.uppermorelandlibrary.org for film titles.

Maurizio Giammarco, the program’s discussion leader, received his Ph.D. in Film and Drama from Temple University. Dr. Giammarco is an instructor at Temple University in the Intellectual Heritage Program. He also teaches at The Bryn Mawr Film Institute, including courses on Latin American Cinema and the films of Bernardo Bertolucci.

March 18: "OF GODS AND MEN"

• Eight French Christian monks live in harmony with their Muslim brothers in a monastery in the mountains of North Africa in the 1990′s. When a crew of foreign workers is massacred by an Islamic fundamentalist group, fear sweeps though the region. The army offers them protection, but the monks refuse. Should they leave? April 15: "An Eduaction"

• In the early 1960′s, 16-year-old Jenny Mellor lives with her parents in a London suburb. She is smart, pretty, and working toward her goal of being accepted into Oxford. May 20: "Brřdre Brothers"

• An emotionally charged story of two brothers who struggle to find their place within their family after one of them is sent to the war in Afghanistan. The responsible brother at war is missing in action and presumed dead. His less responsible brother gravitates toward his brother's presumed widow and cares for her. When the older brother returns from prison camp with post traumatic stress problems, his role and his brother's shift. (Film © Universal Home Video.) Danish ~ 117 minutes ~ Rated R.
