Meet your Ward 2 Candidate: Shone Fix

Early and Professional Life

Shone Fix was born in North Dakota, but grew up in St. Paul, MN.

In 1993, Fix graduated from Christ’s Household of Faith High School, after which he directly entered the workforce.

His first job was with the design and advertising firm Electronic Easel as a customer service representative and production staff. The following year, Fix joined his family’s business, North Star Surfaces, a high-end interior product company, where he started off in its shipping department.

By 1995, Fix was offered a sales position, and became a territory manager, responsible for sales in North Dakota and Wisconsin.

The following year, Fix continued his career in IT as an applications specialist and sales representative for the company Softwares, where he further developed his graphic arts skills.

In 1998, Fix became an applications specialist, installing, training and supporting pre-publishing software, for the graphic arts company ESKOArtwork, which had an office in Bristol, Bucks County.

At 24, Fix moved from St. Paul to live on his own in Bensalem.

During his tenure at ESKOArtwork, he worked his way to become a technical sales specialist and eventually an application support manager by 2009.

He currently works for Hybrid Software, a software development company, as an application sales manager, based in Langhorne.

Family and Community Life

In 1999, Fix met his wife, with whom he now has three young daughters, whose ages range from 8 to 14. Upon his marriage, Fix moved to Northeast Philadelphia.

But, before long, he and his wife had to make a decision on their children’s future education.

“In the summer of 2008, our youngest was ready to go to school,” Fix said. His older two daughters were attending a small private school in Northeast Philadelphia at the time. “And, we were looking at the cost of keeping three kids in private school for the next several years, and public school there was the only other option.”

Fix and his wife put their house for sale and looked at suburban areas already familiar to the family, including Warminster, Warrington and Upper Moreland.

“When we were looking in the area for different options, the house in Upper Moreland, in Hatboro, presented the best of what we’re looking for,” Fix said. “There were a number of rooms, the yard size was nice - coming from Northeast Philadelphia, we were in a row home.”

Fix said, when the family first moved in, they couldn’t believe how quiet their neighborhood was.

“It was really peaceful,” he said.

One of the major deciding factors in moving to Upper Moreland was the school system, and all three of Fix’s daughters attend schools within the .

In the district, his daughters are involved with school activities, and he and his wife also participate with a number of school district events, including volunteering at the pancake breakfast.

Fix is also active at his church, on Reed Street, nearby the Upper Moreland High School.

The church hosts a daily youth program, called ”The Zone,” where youth may go to hang out or seek homework help, as well as host vacation Bible school, and invite children from Christ Home in Warminster to attend services. Fix lends his IT skills toward producing videos or other technical needs for these community-outreach efforts.

Fix said that he witnessed the positive impact Hope Community Church programs had on the participating youth, which helped influence him to further seek community service.

His Reason for Running

When the from her position this year, Fix applied to fill in the vacancy. The position went to , but Fix said, certain residents liked what he had to say during the application process, and asked if he would be interested in pursuing a campaign for Ward 2 commissioner.

He soon began attending the Monday night commissioners meetings.

“This [campaign] has created quite a bit of focus for me, and got me to speed in the area,” Fix said. “I think it’s important to be there for the township and the community.”

Fix said he is also running because he was surprised to find a 13-percent tax increase, and the school district’s real estate tax increases, within the first few years of his family moving to the township.

“I want to get more involved at the towsnhip level, and help drive what happens with township money,” Fix said.

He said that he was able to talk with a few of the sitting commissioners and get their perspective on the position, and is ready to take the after-hours calls from residents should they need help.

“I’m actually looking forward to it,” Fix said.
