$116K Flood Mitigation Grant Flows To Montco Communities

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Two eastern Montgomery County communities will be receiving state grant dollars after an influx of funding was approved to aid with stormwater management.

The office of State Rep. Nancy Guenst, a Democrat representing parts of Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties, announced that funding in the amount of $116,360 that had been earmarked for Upper Moreland Township and the Borough of Hatboro was recently approved.

The grant dollars, which are funneled through the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an agency of the state Department of Community and Economic Development, will help with a joint flood mitigation initiative.

The money comes out of the CFA's Flood Mitigation Program and will go toward assisting the Upper Moreland-Hatboro Joint Sewer Authority in protecting a wastewater treatment plant that serves both municipalities, according to Guenst's office.

"Ensuring the wastewater in our community is properly handled and secured is vital to the overall well-being of our district," Guenst said in a statement. "My office will continue to advocate for state funding that will both keep our residents safe and the local environment sustainable for years to come."

The Upper Moreland-Hatboro Joint Sewer Authority says it provides collection, conveyance and treatment of wastewater from customers in Hatboro and Upper Moreland.

It additionally serves residents and businesses in parts of Bryn Athyn Borough, as well as parts of Horsham and Upper Dublin Townships in Montgomery County, and portions of Warminster Township in neighborhood Bucks County.
