Poem of the Week: "John"

Each week, Upper Moreland-Willow Grove Patch is happy to present poems selected by the members of the , as well as poems from the residents of the Upper Moreland area.

This week's poem:

John

As I sailed through my life,

I met a man

Who touched my soul,

Like no other.

His kindness

Felt like warm gentle waves on a hot summer day.

My friend chose to fight and live through his adversities.

If one was in his presence, they would know

He was a golden treasure.

Just like a radiant sun that dries up the rain.

My friend spoke of his family farm.

He took care of the animals.

They were lucky to have him care for them.

My cat and dog greeted him at the door,

Like children so happy to see their father at the end of the day.

His spirit was free.

Quite like birds that flew from tree to tree,

Building their nests in the spring time air.

Slowly, my friend grew weaker.

And needed assistance to live.

If I could have, I would have scooped him up,

And blew life into his frail body.

He spoke with his eyes.

Until they grew weary.

My family was lucky to have known this man.

But he needed to leave this earth,

Where he no longer had to fight.

Heaven rejoiced to welcome his sweet soul.

There will be no more visits or ringing of door bells

Just sweet memories that live in my heart.
