Schools Can Earn Cash Through Giant's A+ Program

Giant will donate a percentage of proceeds to participant's schools of choice, using the Giant BonusCard.

It’s back to school time, and this year Giant Food Stores is introducing a new fundraising program called A+ School Rewards for schools throughout the Greater Philadelphia, Allentown, Easton and Reading communities.

Starting Oct. 9 and running through March 31, 2012, Giant customers can help local schools earn cash for technology, scholarships, summer programs, field trips, playgrounds and other educational needs.

Every time customers shop using their BonusCard, Giant will donate a percentage of participating customers’ total BonusCard purchases to designated schools.

“We are excited to launch A+ School Rewards, Giant’s simple school fundraiser, to the communities we serve throughout Eastern Pennsylvania,” said Rick Herring, president.

“There is no limit to what schools can do with their A+ School Rewards, and we encourage every local school and customer to participate. More than $10 million has been donated to local schools since the program began in 2005, and last year’s top earning school received more than $17,000!”

Registration for the program is designed to be quick and easy. Customers can sign-up by visiting their local Giant or www.giantfoodstores.com/aplus.

Sign-ups begin Sept. 11 at all Giant locations and on the Web. Customers can designate up to two schools to benefit from the A+ School Rewards they accrue. Participants are encouraged to sign up
as soon as they can to begin earning for their school when the program begins Oct. 9.

After customers designate a school(s), A+ School Rewards points accrue with each purchase made using a BonusCard beginning Oct. 9 through March 31. Beginning in November, current school totals can be found on the A+ website at www.giantfoodstores.com/aplus.

Customers can earn even more money for their local schools by purchasing select bonus products. Double points will be earned on the purchase of participating items throughout the program. These items will be available throughout the program and will be specially marked on the shelves throughout the store along with being listed on the website at www.giantfoodstores.com/aplus.

Additionally, customers can earn triple points by purchasing Healthy Ideas labeled items.

Giant and Martin's exclusive Healthy Ideas blue and green product labeling system helps customers identify healthy options as they shop the aisles. To receive the Healthy Ideas distinction, a product must meet certain criteria related to total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium and sugar amounts developed by a team of registered dietitians.

Look for bonus items labeled on the shelves to earn bonus points for your school.

To assist local schools in getting off to a quick start, the A+ website includes ways to ramp up enrollment and school designations, including downloadable letters for parents.
