Thieves Steal Catalytic Converters Worth About $40K From 7 Work Trucks

Upper Moreland Township Police say a thief cut 14 catalytic converters from work trucks. The loss is estimated at more than $40,000.

UPPER MORELAND, PA — Township police say they are looking for thieves who brazenly cut off 14 catalytic converters from a bunch of work trucks that had been parked at a site on Pioneer Road during the overnight hours Monday into Tuesday.

The police department puts the estimated financial loss at nearly $40,000.

Police said that the thefts happened between 1:30 and 1:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, when suspects arrived at the scene of the crime and proceeded to cut the catalytic converters from seven large Isuzu work trucks.

The police department described one of the suspects as a white or Hispanic male, possibly between the ages of 25 and 30 years old, wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.

The other suspect is being described as a Black male, about 20 to 25 years old, wearing a black shirt, black pants and white shoes.

Anyone with information about the thefts is being asked to call Upper Moreland Detectives at 215-657-4700 or contact the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers Toll Free line at 1-800-4PA-TIPS (8477).

Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward if information leads to identification and apprehension of the suspects.

Catalytic converter theft incidents have increased across the country in recent years since the value of the precious metals contained in the auto parts have increased and can be lucrative for criminals looking to sell the items on the black market.
