UPPER MORELAND & HATBORO, PA — These two eastern Montgomery County municipalities have been approved for state grand dollars to help fund public infrastructure upgrades.

Upper Moreland Township and the Borough of Hatboro will be receiving a total of $1.8 from PennDOT's Multimodal Transportation Fund program to go toward replacing aging infrastructure and reducing traffic congestion in the region.

The funding was announced by Montgomery County Democratic State Sen. Maria Collett.

"Investing in our roads and bridges is critical to the vitality and safety of our communities — and it's something we can all get behind," Collett said in a statement. "I've heard from our municipal partners in Hatboro and Upper Moreland about the urgent needs in these areas, and I am pleased to have worked with them to secure state funding."

Collett, who represents the 12th Senatorial District, said the recent grant award adds to the $1.65 million she helped advocate for late last year to go toward investment in the Willow Grove Interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. That project now has $3 million in earmarked funding to help with improvements, Collett's office stated.

With the most recent grant funding, Upper Moreland Township will receive $1.35 million to complete the first phase of Route 611 (Easton Road) improvements at the Willow Grove Turnpike interchange that are designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic flow.

Hatboro, meanwhile, will receive just under a half-million dollars to fund the design and construction of a full substructure and superstructure to replace an aging timber bridge along West Monument Avenue in the borough, according to the senator's office.
