Center Valley Girl Loses Cancer Fight

Nine-year-old Caitlin Dickey, who was to be honored at an Upper Saucon Township Zumbathon benefit Friday, lost her battle with brain cancer the same day.

A Center Valley girl whose brave battle with brain cancer recently became public knowledge lost her life to the disease Friday, according to an article published by the Express-Times.

Nine-year-old Caitlin Dickey was to be honored at a Zumbathon benefit for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley at Southern Lehigh High School Friday night but died that morning, according to the story, which highlighted the fact that Caitlin's parents still attended and said it was what their daughter would have wanted.

Caitlin was born in Bethlehem on June 6, 2003, and was a fourth-grader at Joseph P. Liberati Intermediate School, according to her obituary published on Legacy.com.

"Caitlin was very positive and driven. She always said I love you and thank you," the obituary stated.

Funeral services for Caitlin Dickey will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 E. Market St., Bethlehem.

A calling hour will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St., Bethlehem, and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. Memorial tributes can be written online at www.longfuneralhome.com.
