DeSales Student Offers Free Musical Theater Club at Middle School
DeSales senior Bridget Hopkins brings years of musical theater experience to a free after-school club for middle school students.

A free club is offering to take students to the stage this fall at Southern Lehigh Middle School.
The Musical Theater Dance Club will begin meeting after school the week of Sept. 17. The eight-week program is the brainchild of DeSales senior Bridget Hopkins. Hopkins felt that a club would be a great way to allow students a new outlet for stress.
"Personally, I have always found dance to be therapeutic...a place I could release stress," wrote Hopkins in her proposal to the school board.

The board passed the motion unanimously at the Aug. 27 meeting.
Hopkins, who is running the club as part of a senior project, plans a small performance during the last week of the club in November.

But the goal of the club goes beyond a few new dance moves and musical numbers.
"I'm looking to see if a dance club could help students leave school with a positive attitude and also with new dance knowledge," wrote Hopkins.
