A look back at the first week covering Upper Saucon and Lower Milford

Wow everyone, what a crazy week! Starting up a website alone is hard enough. But when you've got such a rich and vibrant community as Upper Saucon and Lower Milford…well let's just say it's been a challenge. Not that I can complain. I've met some amazing people over the past week really working hard to make our little slice of southern Lehigh the kind of place that people want to live, work, and raise kids.
I have to say that one of my favorite parts of this week was attending municipal meetings. Yes, seriously. There are some serious issues at the borough and township level, as well as a school district that is facing the dilemma of how to keep the school districts reputation of excellence while trying to prepare for the $800,000 contribution it will have to add to the Public School Employees' Retirement Fund.
People here are passionate about their municipalities. I've seen people screaming at each other, fingers waving. I've heard harsh words exchanged between council members and residents. I've seen passion at Spartans games, and not just from the parents of players. I'Several Coopersburg residents are trying to preserve the past before all the stories are lost to time. They meet diligently every month, even though their numbers are dwindling, to sort through old photos and tell the story of the Coopersburg area from it's beginning to the present day. As Cliff Benner, president of the Historical Preservation Society would say, "We want facts, not gossip!"

And that's what I want to bring to Upper Saucon and Lower Milford. A sense of community. A place where residents can go to sort the fact from fiction. A place where residents can look for something to do on a lazy Saturday afternoon while catching up on the police blotter for the week. That's what I will work for every day with Upper Saucon Patch. Because in the end, it's really all about us.
