Neighborhood Shoe Store Has Ties to Runners in Boston Marathon

An Upper St. Clair woman participating in the marathon is safe.

Upper St. Clair residents' thoughts are with the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

At least one person from Upper St. Clair participated in the race Monday. Colleen Earley and her family has told friends they are safe.

Fleet Feet, located in Bethel Park, has the largest running group in Pittsburgh, and wrote on its Facebook page Monday evening that all of employees and friends were accounted for and safe.

The Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department also sent a message to those affected by the Boston Marathon on Monday:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and victims of the attacks today in Boston. We hope that the first responsers were able to provide their services quick enough to save as many lives as possible. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair), who can often be seen jogging around the township, released the following statement shortly after the tragedy:

It is shocking and tragic. As law enforcement works to determine the cause and culprits, our thoughts are with the victim’s families and we should all keep the city of Boston in our prayers.

A Crescent Township woman running in the marathon told Robinson-Moon Patch she was just two blocks away from the explosion. She's safe and said she just tried to get back to her hotel as soon as she could. Read her full interview here.
