UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Summer is a season to get out of the house and socialize, and there aren’t many better ways to do that than by imbibing with a friend or neighbor at your local tavern. Ah, but which one? There are many in and around Upper St. Clair. Which are the best?

Opinions vary, of course. But we sought the thoughts of Yelp users on the topic.

What follows is their top 10 list of bars in and around the 15241. Do you agree with the choices? Do you see a glaring omission? Is one or more of these places overrated?

Why should someone from Upper St. Clair make the drive to visit the top-ranked tavern? Suggested one Yelp reviewer: “They have a great draft selection and a huge bottle selection with a really nice variety! We have been able to please both craft beer-IPA lovers here, as well as traditional beer drinkers.” Added another: “The selection of craft beers (and even a cider I hadn't tried) is very good. And they have flights of craft beers, which is good if you want to try some different beers.”

2. BJ’s Bar and Brewhouse, 1819 Washington Road, Upper St. Clair

This we like: One of Upper St. Clair’s best taverns that’s actually in the township. Wrote one Yelpster: We sat at the bar since it was pretty much wide open there. They make their own beer and of course I had to try their Hefeweizen. It definitely passed the test.” Opined another:”Good location with ample parking and plenty of food and beer choices.”

3. Someone Else’s Bar, 3841 Willow Ave., Castle Shannon
Seems a tad out of the way to us for people living in Upper St. Clair, but folks do seem to like it One Yelp enthusiast wrote,”I expected it to be a dive, but it truly is not. The bartender was very friendly, and the atmosphere was, too.” Another wrote, Great beer selection several seasonal beers on hand.”

4. Railyard Grill & Tap Room, 413 Railroad St., Bridgeville
Back to Bridgeville we go. “The ciders were all good, and my fave was the Arsenal Ados's Cider. Service at the bar was from Chrissie, and she was very nice and knowledgeable,” one Yelpster offered. Another wrote: “Place is five starts for beer.”

5. Shelby’s Station Bar And Restaurant, 820 McLaughlin Run Road, Bridgeville
This Yelp user loves this place’s prices: “Drank three Long Island ice teas! Yes three of them, cause they are (only) $4. And they were really good.” Keeping his review simple, another user wrote, “The beer is good and cold.“ Works for us.

6. Picolina’s, 1580 McLaughlin Run Road, Upper St. Clair
Yelp reviews for this place focused on the food. The only one we could find that mentioned adult beverages was this:” Went here by myself last night for a late dinner and a glass of wine at the bar. The bartender Pat is fabulous.”

7.Primanti Bros. 1509 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon
Most everyone knows what it’s like to eat and imbibe at this iconic Pittsburgh-based chain. In a review that will surprise no one, one Yelpster wrote: “They have a good selection of beers and service at the bar is good.

At this particular location I had a decent IPA and then a Belgian style beer. Both were good.” Another said, “If you’re visiting Pittsburgh, this place is a must.” But you already knew that.

8. Mindful Brewing Company, 3759 Library Road, Castle Shannon.
Again, seems a bit of a hike from Upper St Clair. But this Yelp reviewer obviously enjoyed the visit, writing “I had a couple of their beers and they were all really tasty. Unfortunately I don't remember the names but I know there was a delicious red that was on tap.” Opined another: “Mindful Brewing has an extensive draft list that includes both in-house brews, quality local drafts and even some wine.”

9. Totopo Mexican Kitchen and Bar, 660 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon
“One of my favorite Mexican bars,” one Yelpster wrote. “The bartenders are so personable and fun. They make great margaritas. Ask for a spicy one and they will make it pretty spicy.” Which is exactly how you want a spicy margarita. Another Yelp user wrote, “The house mojito is delicious, the service was really friendly and the food was fantastic.”

10. Hitchhiker Brewing Company, 190 Castle Shannon Blvd., Castle Shannon
“Their IPAs are really tasty and the atmosphere is nice and intimate,” wrote one Yelp fan.another chimed in favorably as well, writing, “I ordered a flight and that was the absolute perfect way to sample their beers! Of all the ones I tried, there wasn't one that I didn't like.”
