Senatorial Republican Primary Debate Preview

Sue Means, Mark Mustio and D. Raja will debate at a nearby middle school.

The Republican candidates for the 37th Senatorial District seat, currently held by Sen. John Pippy, will face off in a debate next week.

The Peters Township Republicans organization is hosting the debate at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10 in the auditorium of .

The debating candidatesΒ are: Sue Ann Means, Republican state committee woman from Bethel Park; Mark Mustio, 44th District state Representative from Moon Township; and D. Raja, former Mt. Lebanon commissionerβ€”also a recent candidate for Allegheny County Executive. All three candidates will participate in the structured debate forumβ€”moderated by Peters Councilman David Ball.

Rep.Β John Maher, who represents Pennsylvania's 40th Districtβ€”also a candidate for PA Auditor Generalβ€”will lead the opening ceremonies.

There are no opposing Democrat candidates on the ballot against the three Republicans.

β€œIt is unlikely an Independent or a 'write-in' candidate could mount a successful campaign, which means the (state) Senatorial race for District 37 will be decided in the April 24 primary election," stated Laura Zajdel,Β Peters Republicans co-chair,Β in a release.Β β€œThe public will have the opportunity to meet the candidates at the conclusion of the debate, ask questions, and obtain yard signs and campaign supplies.”

The 37th District includes part of Washington County, namely all of ; part of Allegheny County consisting of the following townships: Aleppo, Collier, Findlay, Kilbuck, Leet, Moon, Mount Lebanon, North Fayette, Ohio, South Fayette, South Park and ; and the boroughs of Avalon, Bell Acres, Ben Avon, Ben Avon Heights, Bethel Park, , Edgeworth, Emsworth, Glenfield, Haysville, Jefferson Hills, Leetsdale, Oakdale, Glen Osborne, Pleasant Hills, Sewickley, Sewickley Heights, Sewickley Hills and Whitehall.
