Upper St. Clair Hospital Won't Treat Teen Charged with Mass Stabbing

Southwood Psychiatric Hospital in Upper St. Clair decided that they would not treat Alex Hribal, the 16-year-old boy charged with stabbing and slashing 20 fellow students at Franklin Regional High School.

The Hospital cites security concerns in their refusal.

“They said it was not a forensic facility and not secure,” District Attorney John Peck told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Hribal is being held at Westmoreland County’s juvenile detention center. He faces 21 counts of attempted murder and aggravated assault, and one charge of having a weapon on school property.

Hribal has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression. Judge Chris Feliciani ruled that he should receive inpatient mental health treatment at a hearing on Friday.

“We’ll just have to find someplace else,” Feliciani said. “I’ll keep looking for some place, and they (defense attorneys) should, too.”
