Upper St. Clair Plans To Alter School Day Arrival, Dismissal Times

High school students will have a later start to their day in 2023-24. The move also will impact elementary and middle school students.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA — The Upper St. Clair School District plans to have a later start time for its high school students next year. Because of bus scheduling issues, the move also will require changing elementary and middle school arrival and dismissal times.

First, the new high school times: Classes that now start at 7:30 a.m. will begin at 8 a.m. Dismissal time will be 2:45 p.m.

“For at least three decades, our district has explored the possibility of a later start for our high school students to better align with research relative to what’s best for children/adolescents,”
Superintendent John Rozzo stated in a letter Tuesday to district families. “We are committed to making this happen beginning this fall.”

The elementary school day will begin at 8:35 a.m. and end at 3:05 p.m. Middle schools will start at 8:55 p.m. with dismissal at 3:40 p.m.

School directors are expected to formally approve the plan in May. Input on the time changes can be submitted here.
