Your 2013 Upper St. Clair Community Day Guide
Everything you need to know before heading down to Community Day.
Community Day is Saturday, May 18, and again this year, Mother Nature is on Upper St. Clair's side.
It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 76. Chance of rain is 30 percent after noon, according to the National Weather Service.
7:30-9:30 a.m. Fair Booth Setup

7:45-8:30 a.m. Run for Fun Registration
Registration will be held in the Upper St. Clair High School parking lot. Cost is $10.
9 a.m. Run for Fun
The 3.1-mile, moderately hilly course starts and finishes at Panther Stadium. Bring the whole family!

9:30-10:30 a.m. Hottest Dog Contest
Pre-registration required. Check out the Upper St. Clair dogs competing for cutest puppy, best dressed, cutest dog, most talented and dog-owner lookalike at the stage area in the baseball field outfield by the old recreation center.Â
10:30 a.m. USC Bake-Off
Pre-registration required. Kids will show off their culinary skills. Prizes will go to the winners in each of the following three dessert categories: most patriotic, most original or home sweet home—plus a grand prize winner. It's based on appearance, not edibility.
10:45 a.m. Run for Fun Awards
Awards will be given out for each age group at the race tent.Â
11 a.m.-3 p.m. Clair's Kennel Open House
Get information regarding your pet's care and licensing. See where runaway pets are temporarily held. Talk with an animal control officer. Animals will be available for adoption.
11:30 a.m. Parade
Possibly the highlight of the entire day! Kids, be sure to bring something to catch candy in! This year's grand marshals are John Macuga and Thomas "Tucker" Roche, who are "retiring" after spending 15 years volunteering with the Upper St. Clair Athletic Association.Â
12-3 p.m. The Panther Patriots Station
A must-stop for kids! Enjoy the creative arts and science activities in the Upper St. Clair Library parking lot.
12-3 p.m. Log House Open House and Herb Sale
The log house located in front of the high school will be open for tours after the parade.Â
12-4 p.m. Gilfillan Farm Open House
The 1857 Gilfillan Farm House and surrounding buildings located on Orr and Washington Roads will be open to the community (only time it is during the year). Get a tour of the house, see the farm animals, milk a cow and more!
1 p.m. Scarecrow Unveiling
The scarecrows along Route 19 will lose their Andy Warhol theme and transform into ... (go check it out).Â
12-4 p.m. All-Star Funhouse and Trackless Train
Attention kids! Jump around the inflatable attraction and ride on the trackless train in the library parking lot. Thanks to patron donations, it's FREE!
12-4 p.m. Petting Zoo
Kids can visit the animals that will be located in the library parking lot. There is a minimal fee to feed the animals.
12-5 p.m. Fair Booths
What's Community Day without checking out all the fair booths?! Nonprofits of all kinds will be holding games for kids and passing out information.
12-5 p.m. Treasure Hunt
New this year, stop by booth No. 2 to begin your quest for treasure.Â
12 p.m. Sand Volleyball
High school students will be playing a sand volleyball tournament on the court behind the old recreation center.
2 p.m. Toddler Trot
A race across the baseball field next to the old recreation center will take place for kids ages 1-4 (how cute). Those who want to participate must register before 1 p.m.
2:30 p.m. Water Balloon Toss
The water balloon toss will take place at the baseball field next to the old recreation center. Prepare to get soaked.
3-4:30 p.m. Middle School Games
Middle school students will be participating in games on the municipal basketball courts.Â
3:30 p.m. Duck Race
If you haven't adopted your duck for the 14th annual race in the McLaughlin Run Creek, be sure to stop by the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair fair booth. A single duck is $5, a quack pack of six if $25 and a pack of quakers of 15 is $50. Prizes include:

Parking
Shuttle bus service will be available to the municipal building and the Community and Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park every half-hour starting at 10 a.m. from the following locations:Boyce Middle School, Fort Couch Middle School, Gilfillan Farm, Upper St. Clair High School andWestminster Presbyterian Church. Permit parking only will be allowed in the Public Works parking lot on Truxton Drive.
