He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he served for four years and earned the rank of Corporal. He served as a rifleman with the 2nd LAR Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, and was deployed to Iraq; during this time, he earned the Combat Action Ribbon and other awards.
A GoFundMe that was set up to support his wife Nancy and their five children has raised almost $60,000 as of Wednesday afternoon. Plum's children Andrew, Aiden, Wyatt, Emmet, and Francesca range in age from 14 years to 18 months, the department said. He and his family resided in Warwick Township for the past six years.
In lieu of flowers, organizers of the funeral ask that memorial contributions be sent to the Warrington Police Department K-9 Unit, 2330 Lower Barnes Road, Warrington, PA 18976, or to the Throw Away Dogs Project.
"His family has shared that ever since he was a kid, he wanted to be a K-9 officer," the police department said. "To see Officer Plum finally in this role, was to see a man living out his childhood dream. He loved every second of it, even cleaning up after Murph!"
Known for his kindness, infectious laugh, smile, sense of humor, and big heart, Officer Plum will be missed by his fellow officers and the community he served.
