Mascaro Offers Warminster Yard Waste Dropoff, As Delays Persist

The Philadelphia-based waste collection company has been running behind since the coronavirus shutdown began.

WARMINSTER, PA — Still working to catch up from a coronavirus-outbreak related slowdown, Warminster's waste collection contractor is providing a yard waste dropoff location for township residents.

J.P. Mascaro and Sons will have a yard waste truck at the rear gate of the township's Licenses and Inspections building, at 910 W. Bristol Rd., from Wednesday through Friday. It will be available from 8 a.m.-2:45 p.m., township officials said Wednesday.

Those bringing yard waste to drop off are asked to access the location by taking Brennan Drive to Stub Road.

Regular waste collection is continuing, but behind schedule in Warminster. Last month, company President Pat Mascaro said the Philadelphia-based company "underestimated the business impact of this virus, thinking our company could continue collections in a normal manner."

"I learned the hard way the negative impacts of the virus on our industry," Mascaro said in a written statement.

He said that while other waste collection companies suspended yard waste and bulk pickups in March, Mascaro kept trying to provide all services. But Pennsylvania's coronvirus-related "stay at home" order upped waste loads 20-30 percent, he said.

People stuck at home used their time to clean sheds, basements and attics, do landscaping projects and storms caused extra debris, he said.

Meanwhile, workers who got sick were missing at least two weeks at a time on the job and civil rights protests in Philly that, at times, spun out of control in late May and early June shut down public transportation, making it impossible for some Mascaro employees to get to work.

"I apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered," he said. "I respectfully ask for your continued patience during this period of time, and I thank you for allowing me to express myself."

Warminster officials said the yard waste dropoff is optional and in addition to pickup, which will continue as Mascaro crews are able.
