The following products may be dropped off during Take Back Day: Prescription and over-the-counter solid medications, i.e. tablets and capsules; liquid medications, inhalers, creams, ointments, and nasal sprays; pet medications; and vaping devices, cartridges, pods, and e-liquids (please remove batteries). Do not bring injectables, needles or Illicit substances.
Why is Take Back Day important?
- According to the 2019 Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS), when asked how they obtained prescription drugs they used without a doctor’s prescription, 42.9 percent of Bucks County students responded that they “took them from a family member living in my home.”
- More than 50 percent of people who abuse prescription pain relievers get them from friends or relatives.
- Prescription and over-the-counter drugs are the most commonly misused substances by Americans 14 and older, after marijuana and alcohol.
- Now is a great time to clean out your medicine cabinet for safe disposal of unused, unneeded or expired medications. Bring all your unneeded medications – including pet meds and vape products – to one of the Bucks County Take Back Collection sites.
- Using vaping devices may help some people stop smoking, but data shows those who vape are four times as likely to begin smoking traditional cigarettes as those who don’t vape. Bring vaping products for safe disposal.
- When drugs are flushed down the toilet, filters may not remove all of the chemicals.
- Some items commonly accepted at permanent medication collection boxes include: prescription and over-the-counter medications, tablets, capsules, patches, creams, vitamins, pet medications, ointments and inhalers.
- Remember to remove any personal information from bottles before safely disposing them on April 27. Drive up and drop in your unneeded or unwanted medications at one of 47 sites. And bring your pet meds too.
