Parts Of Warminster Park Closed For Construction

The work is expected to continue through June and will bring new ballfields, trails and a pavilion to the community park.

WARMINSTER, PA — Portions of Warminster Community Park have been shut down this week for work on a $3 million plan to expand and improve the park.

Township officials announced the closures on Monday. Areas that are off limits will be designated by barricades and construction fencing, township officials said.

In a social media post, officials said the closures are expected to continue through the spring, but that contractors will be doing their best to reopen each area as it is completed.

"We recognize that this will cause some disruption to regular park visitors and hope that you will bear with us throughout the process," the township said in the post. "This large multi-grant project will greatly expand the public amenities in WCP and we are trying to confine all work to the winter/spring months when there is less activity in the park."

Officials say they hope the entire project will be finished by June.

A new pavilion with restrooms, soccer fields, baseball and softball fields, trails, and more parking are all included in the work, which had been set to start last spring but was postponed due to coronavirus concerns.

The Warminster Board of Supervisors had a virtual meeting planned for Tuesday evening. On the agenda is the authorization of a $15 million general obligation note. The loan would pay for the work at the park and work revitalizing the Shenandoah Woods area purchased in 2017, among other projects.

According to officials, the parking lot, pond trail, perimeter trail, Hallowell Pavilion and playground will remain open during the construction. Trees along the crossover trail are being relocated to other areas of the park or into the new parking areas, they said.

The basketball courts, Safety Town, much of the runway and the interior trails, including the crossover trail, will be blocked or closed, they said.

Heavy equipment will be bringing in dirt for the sports fields and moving dirt for stormwater drainage, sections of the runway will be removed for greening and landscaping and other sections of the runway will be milled and paved for parking lots, additional basketball courts and access roads.

Cyclists will need to use the perimeter trail to gain access to the Bristol Road exit when sections of the runway are closed.
