No Fatalities In Wednesday's 8-Vehicle Turnpike Crash: Coroner

An accident with two tractor-trailers closed all WB travel from Morgantown to Reading last week, but no injuries were fatal.

MORGANTOWN, PA — There were no fatalities in an eight-vehicle accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Morgantown last week, said Eric Beiber of the Lancaster County Coroner's Office today.

All westbound lanes were closed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Wednesday afternoon after an accident involving two tractor-trailers near Morgantown, with more than a dozen injured, according to early reports. The PA Turnpike reported all lanes were reopened at 6:25 p.m.

PA State Trooper Holly Reber-Billings reported at 1:26 p.m. Wednesday, "Due to two crashes involving 8 vehicles in Brecknock Township in Lancaster County, the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be temporarily closed westbound from Morgantown to Reading interchanges."

Traffic was detoured to State Route 10 South to State Route 23 West to US Route 322 West to Route 222 North. Motorists could re-enter the Turnpike at the Reading Interchange, the Turnpike authority reported.

Lancaster County Commissioner Ray D'Agostino posted on Twitter Wednesday afternoon the accident happened on "PA Turnpike westbound near milepost 292.7 involving tractor-trailer into a line of vehicles. Over a dozen people injured and over a dozen EMS units responding."
