3-Alarm Downingtown Quarry Fire Put Out: Fire Officials

A fire broke out at the Heidelberg Materials Downingtown Quarry at 499 Quarry Road, at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday night.

DOWNINGTOWN, PA —A three-alarm fire broke out at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday in a conveyer building at Heidelberg Materials Downingtown Quarry at 499 Quarry Road in the Downingtown section of East Caln Township.

It took firefighters about 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which was contained to two building at the quarry, which supplies cement, concrete and asphalt.

One firefighter was treated at the scene, according to reports.

The quarry is near a movie theater, whose parking lot was used to stage fire engines and other equipment.

A damage estimate was not available.

Firefighters were on the scene for three and half hours, according to a report from Alert Fire Co. 1 of Downingtown.

An estimated 40 vehicles were at the scene, according to a Facebook post from Alert Fire.

Units on location were from the following fire departments: Alert, Minquas, West Whiteland, Thorndale, East Brandywine, West Bradford, Lionville, First West Chester, Goodwill, Good Fellowship EMS, Minquas EMS, Goshen, Kimberton, and Dive Rescue 77.
