$5M Allocated By Chesco Commissioners For Community Revitalization
The grants included $697K for improvement at the Open-Air Marketplace

WEST CHESTER, PA —Chester County Commissioners Thursday approved $5 million in grants to municipalities in urban centers throughout the county for community revitalization projects.
West Chester was awarded $697,797 for Gay Street Open-Air Marketplace infrastructure improvements. Gay Street is closed during weekends from May to the end of October for outdoor dining. Open air starts Friday mornings and concludes Monday mornings.
Commissioner Marian Moscowitz, chairwoman, said the grants help the county’s urban centers ensure that crucial infrastructure needs are maintained and improved. She said the grants also encourage new growth.

The commissioners also awarded these grants:
- Oxford Borough: $1 million to the Borough of Oxford for the redevelopment of the area around Niblock Alley and Broad Street Bridge;
- Modena Borough: $800,000 for stormwater management and road improvements;
- Phoenixville Borough: $728,278 for improvements to the Starr Street and Bridge Street intersection;
- Atglen Borough: $420,706 for Church Street and Tee Alley stormwater management system relocation;
- South Coatesville: $400,000 to South Coatesville for Youngsburg Road stormwater inlet replacement;
- Spring City: $390,640 for the completion of public parking improvements
- Honey Brook Borough: $204,370 for curb, sidewalk, road, and storm pipe rehabilitation on South Chestnut Street;
- West Grove Borough: $164,399 for completion of the Prospect Avenue sidewalk to the Borough line;
- City of Coatesville: $113,810for a comprehensive evaluation of the Gibbons Run Culvert system;
- Avondale Borough: $100,000 to survey and map the borough’s water, sewer, and stormwater systems.
