4-Alarm Fire Displaces Dozens, Closes Schools In Chesco

A fire broke out in a warehouse at 11:36 p.m. Wednesday and spread to an apartment building and stores, officials said.

CHESTER COUNTY, PA —A four-alarm fire Wednesday night displaced 80 people after spreading from a warehouse to a neighboring apartment building and stores on South Third Street, emergency officials said Thursday.

No one was reported injured.

The fire caused the Oxford School District to close today, officials said.

The fire broke out at 11:36 p.m. Wednesday and was under control at 3:30 a.m. Thursday. However, firefighters are still on the scene this morning clearing debris, according to Patty Mains, spokeswoman for the Chester County Department of Emergency Services.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal. A damage estimate was not available.

A warehouse along South Third Street, six buildings along South Third Street, and a 49-unit apartment building were severely damaged, Mains said.

The American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Region has opened a shelter at Penn’s Grove Middle School in Oxford. The shelter provides individuals and families with meals, snacks, water, personal hygiene, and emotional support.
